Harvest Moon Weekend

Harvest Moon Weekend is a brand new event, that is proud to offer a fantastic set of instructors, live music, and competitions, set to the beautiful background of the Puget Sound.  It will be a weekend of lots dancing to include Lindy Hop, Shag, Balboa, and other choreographed swing dance routines, guaranteed to provide a fun and memorable weekend that will have something for everyone! Classes are organized into levels from Beginner to Advanced, contests, including a throwback to the Harvest Moon Ball, where everything goes! Dance into the wee hours of the morning and keep dancing until the sun comes up! Come and join us and spend a nice, relaxing, fun weekend in the Puget Sound!

Class Descriptions

Saturday

 10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

 Beginner Track

The Basics of Pure Bal: Are you interested in that thing called Balboa? Who better to teach you than two of the best!

Intermediate Track

Legacies: Learn some of the classic, beloved signature moves and combos of some of the legends of Balboa, including Maxie Dorf, Hal & Marge Takier, Ann Mills, and more!

Advanced Track

Dean Collins Inspiration: For those who love LA style, learn authentic Dean Collins and Jewel McGowan classic movements and the technique required to do them.

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

Beginner Track

Killer 6-Count Stuff: Learn some sweet moves and styling that you can use immediately, all in 6-count timing.

Intermediate Track

Tap into your Lindy Hop: Learn basic tap steps and how to incorporate them into your Lindy Hop to add new rhythms to increase your improvisation abilities. 

Advanced Track

What Nick Thinks You Need (Lindy): Nick Williams has been dancing for a long time. He has learned from some of the best and continues to expand his skills even today. Get into Nick’s head and learn some of what he likes to do.

All Levels Track

Slow Dance I (Lindy): Ever had a slow song play and wonder what to do? Look no further! This is a hybrid dance the Stefan and Elaine have been putting together. It takes it's influence from a few different styles and is such a delight to do during slower songs. This class will work on Dynamic movement in close embrace. 

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

 Beginner Track

Technique Geek (Lindy): Use dynamic connection to level up your ability to lead and follow. This class is a true blending of exercises and vocabulary that ask you to use finite connectivity to make creative communication happen between you, your partner and the music.

Intermediate Track

Building on the Basics: Now that you’ve been Lindy Hopping for a while, let’s find some new things to add into your dancing.

Advanced Track

Slow Bal: Learn how to dance your balboa smoothly and dreamily, to some deliciously slow tempos. This will work wonders for your balance and timing and improve ALL your balboa, at any speed.

2:45 PM – 3:45 PM

Beginner Track

The Ins and Outs of Outs and Ins: You’ve probably seen these on the dance floor and thought it was CRAZY! Well, learn how to do them so you can become a pro!

Intermediate Track

Shiny New Toys (Lindy): Lauren & Peter share with you some of their favorite new moves and styling, the stuff they are excited about right now!

Advanced Track

Savoy Kicks: A variation on the basic Charleston step with questionable origins, Savoy kicks open the ability to dance a new type of basic instead of side by side Charleston. We will cover as many variations as we can make it through for the level of the class. 

All Levels Track

Alignment for Lindy Hoppers: It can be very hard sometimes to know how to place your body while dancing. In this class, learn how to place your bones and organize your muscles for optimal connection!

3:45 PM – 4:45 PM

 Beginner Track

Excellent Connection (Lindy): The better your frame and connection, the better your dancing will be, for you and all your partners. Learn some amazing techniques to make it better, immediately!

Intermediate Track

MGM Vintage Jazz: Vintage Jazz movement inspired by vernacular movement and the dance styles of the golden age of Hollywood. 

Advanced Track

What Sylvia Things You Need to Know (Lindy): Sylvia has danced with the best. She is one of the most renowned Lindy Hoppers in the world today. Come learn the things that she feels are most important.

Sunday

10:00 AM – 11:00 AM

 Beginner Track

Bal-Swing Classics: Time to work on some of the fundamental moves and movements in Bal-Swing, including Lolly Kicks and Tossouts!

Intermediate Track

Charleston Smorgasbord: All forms of Charleston and how to get them into your Lindy Hop.

Advanced Track

Taking Pure Bal to the Next Level: Pure balboa is sometimes lost to the flash that bal-swing brings. Learn some new and fun things to do with your pure balboa to take back the dance floor!

11:00 AM – 12:00 PM

 Beginner Track

Musically Speaking (Lindy): Open up new musical possibilities by learning to listen to each other and create on a whole new level.

Intermediate Track

Cleaning Up Pure Bal: Pure balboa is so much fun to do. Find ways to improve your pure balboa.

Advanced Track

Parameters (Lindy): One of Lauren & Peter's most acclaimed classes, Parameters is part game, part experiment, and always inspiring and eye-opening. Don't miss this class!

All Levels Track

Slow Dance II (Lindy): Dance is very much a conversation between the lead and follow. In this second part, learn the call, response, and beyond to really jive.

12:00 PM – 1:00 PM

Beginner Track

Wrapping it All Up So You’re Happy (Lindy): It’s been a long fun week of learning and dancing. Get some final thoughts and moves to tie off your weekend.

Intermediate Track

Shiny New Toys (Balboa): We all love having fun new things to use in our dancing, so this class is where Lauren & Peter give you some fun and interesting New Toys!

Advanced Track

George Lloyd inspiration: George Lloyd was a smooth style Lindy Hopper from the Savoy Ballroom in Harlem, in this class we will look at some little known moves with George's classic smooth Harlem style Lindy Hop.

2:45 PM – 3:45 PM

Beginner Track

LA Style Lindy Hop: Learn classic LA/smooth style lindy hop in a modern way aimed at blending it into your social dance tool box. Learn to incorporate counterbalance technique to your Lindy Hop and use different body mechanics to create new dynamics and rhythms with your partner. 

Intermediate Track

Cleaning Up Bal Swing: Bal-Swing is flashy and wonderful to be able to integrate with your Lindy. Get some pointers on ways to improve your Bal-Swing and make it look even better!

Advanced Track

Q & A (Lindy): It's getting toward the end of the weekend, and you probably have lots of questions built up. This is the time to let those fly and Lauren & Peter will help out!

All Levels Track

Solo Charleston Variation: Explore classic Charleston movements and tools for improvisation.

3:45 PM – 4:45 PM

Beginner Track

Putting It All Together (Lindy): You've learned tons by now...this class is where we dance it all together and work on how to make it work smoothly and cohesively!

Intermediate Track

Savoy Inspiration: Work on classic Whitey's Lindy Hoppers Material to add to your social dancing. work on the technique required to add these dynamic movements into your vocabulary.

Advanced Track
Taking Your Bal Swing to the Next Level: It’s easy to keep doing the same bal-swing moves over and over again. Come learn new moves and bring your Bal-Swing to pro status!
